A bizarre road occurrence unfolded along the Hatton-Bogawantalawa main road when a polythene bag discarded from a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus struck the front windscreen of another oncoming SLTB bus.

The incident occurred while a couple and their child were travelling aboard the bus, during which the child fell sick and vomited. The father gathered the waste into a polythene bag and tossed it out through the bus window while traversing the Norwood area, resulting in the bag directly hitting the windscreen of an SLTB bus travelling in the opposite direction.

Following the impact, the drivers of both buses prepared to escort the passenger to the Norwood Police Station. However, realizing the severe inconvenience and hazard caused, the passenger admitted fault and resolved the dispute amicably by proceeding to the bus depot and settling the assessed charges, according to Hatton SLTB Depot Superintendent Palitha Weerasooriya. The depot management reiterated a strict cautionary appeal advising commuters using public transit never to fling items or litter from running buses, emphasizing that such reckless habits endanger other road users and could cause catastrophic road accidents.
